Intervention Specialist


General Purpose:

A Student Intervention Specialist is responsible to BlockParent.org and works under the direct supervision of the designated BlockParent.org manager and the school-site Principal. The Student Intervention Specialist is responsible for supporting youth and staff at selected school sites.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and supervise the conduct, safety, and welfare of children within a cafeteria, lunchroom, playground, or other areas as assigned.
  • Enforce campus rules and regulations; inform students of acceptable school behavior.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting playground and/or noon activities.
  • Intercede in potential problem situations between students; provide assistance to staff in discipline of students and prepare referrals as necessary.
  • Patrol and supervise assigned areas of campus, assuring students are safe, orderly and within supervised areas.
  • Inspect buildings, restrooms, playgrounds, or other facilities for possible hazards to the safety and welfare of children and reports such hazards to appropriate authority.
  • Escort students to and from administration offices as necessary for inappropriate behavior issues; retrieve students as requested by administrators; escort ill or injured students to school health office as necessary.
  • Assure non-students on campus are authorized visitors; monitor for proper identification and/or direct visitors to the office prior to going to a classroom or any other location on the school grounds.
  • Communicate with students, administrators and staff concerning student behavior and assigned activities; report incidents involving students to school administrators and complete required accident or incident forms.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Employment Eligibility

    • Successful candidate must provide proof of employment eligibility and verification of legal right to work in the United States in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
  • Education

    • A Bachelor of Arts degree in a job-related area is preferred.
    • A High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Soft Skills

    • Basic methods of individual and group supervision.
    • Oral and written communication skills.
    • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
    • Usage of proper oral and written English, Spanish or target language.
    • Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity.
    • Operation of a computer and assigned software.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
    • Demonstrate patience and a receptive attitude towards children.
    • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
    • Learn district and school policies related to the conduct, safety, and welfare of pupils in assigned areas.
    • Maintain regular attendance.
